SUNY CANTON COOPER SERVICE COMPLEX ADA BATHROOM RENOVATIONS, Canton, NY

Project Overview

NKB provided professional A/E and construction administration services to renovate and reconstruct existing toilet rooms, locker rooms, and office space within the Cooper Service Complex at SUNY Canton to achieve compliance with current ADA accessibility standards and accommodate a modern, inclusive workforce. The work is based on the Cooper Service Complex Toilet Room Reconfiguration Study and schematic design dated January 6, 2023. Services include architectural and engineering design; coordination and integration of associated plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems serving the renovated spaces; and completion of a hazardous materials survey and related design considerations.

Early pre-design analysis suggested that substantial structural demolition would be required to implement the original design concept. Through iterative design and close evaluation of existing conditions, NKB developed an alternative solution that avoided structural demolition altogether, leveraging the existing building framework to achieve the project goals while improving constructability, reducing costs, and accelerating delivery. Because the study was completed over a year before design, a detailed construction cost estimate was developed to support budget alignment and bidding readiness, resulting in a successful project supporting the project budget.
