Our Commitment To Serving Our Community
Cul-De-Sac Classic
Every year, NKB hosts an internal challenge called the Cul-De-Sac Classic, held in November leading up to Thanksgiving. The purpose of our Cul-De-Sac Classic is two-fold. Generally, our team works from their homes, so we try to get everyone outdoors and moving around as the weather gets colder. We are also striving to raise donations for the Samaritan Center of Syracuse, which is such a meaningful organization in our community.
“The Samaritan Center is a nonprofit 501c3, interfaith effort of community members committed to serving the hungry and those in need, in order to promote their welfare, dignity, and self-sufficiency. It is rooted in the belief that sound nutrition is the first step in enabling people to cope and become productive, self-sufficient members of society. Since 1981, Samaritan Center has worked to fight hunger in the greater Syracuse community by providing nutritious hot meals to anyone in need 7 days a week – no questions asked. During our Cul-De-Sac Classic, we track our collective mileage, either walking, biking, or running, and NKB donates $1 per mile achieved. We also set up a GoFundMe account for any of our employees to donate funds directly to the Samaritan Center, if they are able.
This was our 5th year hosting the challenge. Thanks to our dedicated employees, we are proud to announce that NKB raised a collective $976 to support the Samaritan Center. Thank you, everyone, for helping us complete another successful year of our Cul-De-Sac Classic!
We’re fortunate to support the Samaritan Center not only on #GivingTuesday, but throughout the year. Several times each year, the NKB team comes together to assemble sandwiches that help feed those in need. Over the past seven years, we’ve made more than 3,570 sandwiches and donated non-perishable food items to support the Center’s mission. Employee Community Giveback Initiative
At NKB, we believe in the power of giving back – not just as a company, but as individuals who care deeply about the communities where we live and work. That’s why we’re proud to share our new Community Giveback Initiative, a quarterly program designed to spotlight the causes that matter most to our team.
Each quarter, one team member is selected to choose an organization that is close to their heart. Whether it’s through a monetary donation or by volunteering our time and talents at a service event, we’ll come together to support that organization in a meaningful way.
This initiative is more than just giving – it’s about connection, compassion, and making a real impact. We’re excited to see the incredible organizations our team members champion and to stand beside them in service. Let’s make a difference, together.
RMHC Pop Tab Collection Donation! Grab the Tab! Pop It & Drop It!
At NKB, we believe that even the smallest acts of giving can make a meaningful difference. Through our ongoing collection for the Ronald McDonald House Charities Pop Tab Program, our team collects aluminum pop tabs and metal bottle caps, which are recycled to support families with seriously ill or injured children. While each tab may seem insignificant on its own, together they generate valuable funding that helps Ronald McDonald House chapters provide comfort, care, and a home away from home for families during difficult times. By encouraging our employees, families, and friends to save and donate their pop tabs year-round, we're proud to turn everyday items into meaningful support for an important cause.
1 paper box = 24 lbs! Pull tabs and metal bottle caps can come from soda/juice cans, energy drink cans, soup cans, pet food cans, tennis ball cans, or anything with a metallic pull tab or bottle cap. The aluminum tabs get recycled for cash to help in funding their mission. Thousands of dollars are raised annually from this tab drive. It is a small yet valuable item!
It takes approximately 1,128 pop tabs to equal one pound. RMH typically receives between $0.40 to $0.55 per pound of pop tabs. This program brings in an average of $6,000 annually to chapters throughout the US and has raised over $4 MILLION to date!
The RMHC Pop Tab program is important because it provides extra revenue that can help make up for the donations that families cannot make when staying at the Ronald McDonald House/Ronald McDonald Family Room/Ronald McDonald Family Retreat.
